Itago aren't going to take the world by storm, but my take on the point of John's clip is that there is an indigenous Japanese surfing culture that goes way back. In many places around the world. there is a dogma that surfing started with malibu boards introduced in the early 60s.

The surfing style, is not dissimilar to the UK bellyboard or European plankys. A simple way to have fun.
