I have reserved camp site #711. There are two remaining tent sites for the two nights, Sun/Mon, Oct 11-12, 2015 (checking out on Tue, Oct 13th). One of the remaining sites is #713.

A day trip from San Clemente to El Capitan?
Even if I didn't have other plans already, traffic being what it is these days I would have to say no thanks.
That's close to 400 miles round trip and most of it on roads that are famously congested.

But SWIMPAL and I will be up there to check out that posh camp ground this fall at some point...........

I just booked in for Friday and Saturday night, October 9th and 10th, checking out on Sunday morning (*but staying at the EC day parking lot if things are firing...). Super stoked to meet up with everyone, I'll be up against the hill, a short walk away in Space #815. Looking forward to it. I've got business that forces me to head back north on Monday, but I'll be there for the first part of it, and who knows, if it's 6' and roping, maybe I can alter my plans? But this should be a good way to go at first to lock in.

I just checked their site and it only shows RV spots left. I could split with someone a tent site but I need to see if I can get the days off. The other guy in the department has asked for the 2 weeks off prior. Only question I have is I live in my van so I wouldn't be taking a tent spot. So is there a limit there of how many cars go to a site? I couldn't see anything on the site.

Pes78, if you live in the van then isn't that kind of like an RV? I will try to call tomorrow to inquire about how many cars can park at a tent spot or if there is overflow parking.

Brochure thingy came in the email:

"Tent and RV rates include four guests, one pet and one vehicle per site. Additional guests, pets, or vehicles are $10 per day each, subject to availability. Limit is six guests, two pets, and two vehicles per site. NO tents allowed in RV sites."

This reminds me of camping in a state park south of santa cruz.

What a pain in the ass, no reservations so had to get there by 7am when the site open to hope to grab a site.

Then it was one powered vehicle and one trailer per site for the $30, I was camping with friends and we all have vw campers, so the guy next to us has a duelly and a massive 5th wheel trailer, and us with 3 little vw's ,we get charge $50, $10 per extra powered vehicle.

In the uk, a camp site is mostly just a field, you turn up walk in the field and grab some land! Not such a fire risk over here ;)

I asked about it at Emma Wood and you have to be self contained for a RV spot. Well I'm going to check today about getting Monday and Tuesday off. Then figure the rest out but depending on how many people and how many sites we get.

There are spaces available at El Capitan state park from Sunday 10/11 onwards. Looks I'll get one of those spaces. I still haven't figured out my intinerary. I was thinking about arriving on Sat. Maybe I'll stay in a hotel one night on Sat and then camp at El capitan state park. I wanted to make a 5 day trip out of it.

I'll be there a little before some of you guys, but will still be there as you're arriving and we should be able to surf together. Put this cell number in your phones, and feel free to call ahead to see how the surf is looking: 805-903-3944. Think of me as an 'advance paipo scout'...I'll have the intel, though if we're lucky, it'll be pumping the entire time....

If there is any chance of ridable surf on Saturday, in an uncrowded spot (ha ha, but seriously!), then I might drive up Saturday and grab a motel room as well.

While I'm there, I'm more than happy to share my site with anyone? I guess the rules say you can't pitch a tent in an RV site...........but if any of you have a truck with a camper shell or a van or a Sprinter or something, I'm sure there's a way to squeeze you in and make it happen.

I just reserved a spot at Ocean Mesa for 10/11-13. I don't know what number it is. I am actually coming down on 10/10 Sat. I got a room in Lompoc. I didn't want to pay $150 for a Motel 6 in Goleta maybe I'll switch to Carpenteria North for $100 a night. We'll see.
I am probably going to stay around leave the SB area on Wed 10/14. My cell number is 415-246-1017 James
