Hi! I'm new to this group. I recently joined because I‘ve been riding bellyboards since 1964. Greenough, John Bradbury, Matt Moore, Wayne Rich, Aaron Abernathy, have all shaped boards for me.
I’m still riding the 5’ bat-tail quad, used a lot less since the pandemic began, the crowds became out of control plus a heart attack two years ago, from which I’ve recovered. But a new Wayne Rich 4’10” single fin, 19” wide, really thin, has me re-stoked. Got some west Goleta sneak attacks in at the end of spring, beginning of summer. Another fast lane flyer!!

Here’s one of my current bellyboards: 5’ x 19” bat-tail quad, with belly dish and 1’3/4” at the midpoint

Is your other bat tail by Aaron? I have a photo of a similar board and noted it was 18 3/4"wide. It could just be an error.

5’ x 19” x 2” at the thickest just forward of the belly dish. Double concave, slight v in the tail.
anything to keep us on the ocean, right? All my boards have a dish starting a few inches above the midpoint and fairing off into the tail where the thickness is just enough to account for the fin boxes.

so your latest board can't be too much thinner if you've stuck with quads? This is the thinnest I have gone on a fibreglass board, but it is finless.

yes it is. My second quad bat tail. Going through hollow sections it feels like I’ve got two fins and the inside pin in the wave. Really fast.

I can't find it, but I'm sure you posted the tail width, 12" from the tail - do you mind re-posting it? I was also interested in how big the fin is? You might have posted this as well, I think gremlins have struck or I am just mistaken.

Bob, I’m up in northern Nevada, where the ancient seas have dried up. But I think right that 12” up from the tail. Fin is a Greenough 8”.

Thanks. A quick search and I can see why you would be there, that landscape looks like it would interest you. I tried a few search terms terms previously, but then hit upon trying numbers, I started with 15" and got lucky (perhaps it was the Nevada reference). You had said the Wayne Rich was 15" wide, 12" up from the tail - this was buried in a thread, which contained a surfing photo, not one of your boards. My interest is that a shaper scaled down one of his shapes and used the usual width I ride, the end result looked like an egg. I'll have to go narrower (around 19") to get a shape I like.
