how do you get going(catch a wave) on one of them?
John Galera
Keith Usher just paddle, white water takeoffs are best when starting. The foil hooks up to the “under” wave and pushes you forward. We have many safety features built in!
Jarrett Liu
his name is Sam Pa’e from the Westside of Wai’anae, he’s been riding paipo-foil awhile and also got other paipo boarder to create, learn the SAFETY of riding a foil… great man to surf with, he also admire my style of riding the Malolo Style…. Great Adventure

John Galera
he is on a foil boogie with a strongbox mount. Foam is EPS. In my boards similar to Sam’s (since he taught me) I vacuum bag the board with carbon/Kevlar. See my IG nofin_paipo for more! DM and we can talk specifics!

No paddle take off. Is it hard to paddle?
To answer your question, the hydro foil will be mostly a drag paddling for the wave, however once the foil starts to feel the energy it wants to lift. Your timing needs to be on point to make the final adjustments, weight transfer, and set the rig to be coefficient for flight. If you hang at the curl the energy will be more intense causing your rig to jump so quickly, you won't have enough time to react.

it's not easy to get a wave. The foil creates a lot of drag.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/paipobe ... 654425080/ How long is your board? Have the board and foil been modified much to ride prone?
Sam Pa'e
this 44" board is set up specifically for prone foiling.
Bob Green
what other changes are there?
Sam Pa'e
I added a handle and a slick top I call a "slide plate". This allows your body to do micro adjustments (forward & backwards) to control pitch and your angle of lift. Key points foiling
Bob Green
thanks. I dont know what you call it, but is the bit that stays in the water, is it standard or modified?
Sam Pa'e
it's a standard hydro foil. No modifications. Just purchase, install, and fly!...Wee
Bob Green
where did you buy yours?

How do you get back out the back after each wave...

Sam Pa'e
I paddle out just like normal.

Damn, second time today, this looks insane…
Sam Pa'e
YES!!!.....Crazy, fun, fast, and insane
Matt Pierce
Think I have seen video of you on YouTube maybe. This looks really fun. Are you making your own foils as well?
Sam Pa'e
This is SUPER FUN. My boards are custom built. The foil I use are Axis. I like this brand.
Nick Winter
Looks amazing! What’s your takeoff technique? And what about duck-diving?
Sam Pa'e
Take off?.....I avoid the steep drops. Mushy white water take-off are ideal. However I'm on a foil drive which make life so much easier. Duck drives are normal granted it deep enough. If not I'll flip the board, kick out, and duck drive if need be
Nick Winter
ah right thanks. Does a foil drive mean it has its own power? Cool!
Sam Pa'e
yeah.....it basically an electric motor. Very easy to get in on.

Robert Moynier
Yes, wondering about paddling out, take off etc.The board looks fairly thick, is this to allow decent paddling power until take off? Looks crazy fun.
Sam Pa'e
volume is key to a take off. However it's a bit too big, but fun
Robert Moynier
mahalo.. it’s a whole different thing that opens many doors and surf spots!
Keith Usher
Can you describe the feeling compared to surfing, the non-contact with the wave face and non-use of a rail makes it look like it would be a totally different feeling. Also whats the cost of a setup like that?
Sam Pa'e
it's like floating on cloud nine. Easy on the body, very smooth, and fast

Looks Nutz!
How hard is it to keep this one up out of the water?
Sam Pa'e
Very Hard!....maneuverability, speed, pitch, and control becomes very sensitive.
Richard Mendonca
Sam Pa'e Looks like it. But still, Bad Ass!

Bob Green
Besides being closer to the water, what difference in speed and maneuverability is there when the mast is shorter?
Sam Pa'e
maneuverability, speed, pitch, and control becomes very sensitive. One wrong move and your done. Low tide and shallow water is your only benefit
Bob Green
So a long mast is easier to ride?
Sam Pa'e
Yes! You have time to make a split decisions on adjustment, pitch, and control. Using a short mast allows you to feel its sensitivity, keeps you on your toes, and stay focused.
