hay yall

I am a 36 year old surfer from the Mornington peninsula Australia only surfing stand up until resonantly when I was on a mission to the hard were shop.
Out of the corner of my eye flashed a cheep sheet of ply wood 2'x4'x1/2" $20 so I bought it,This event changed something and I have surfed the ply board every day from then.THE THING IS SO FAST AND SMOOTH to ride!

I have a fair bit of history building surf craft as a hobbyist and plan on experimenting with the prone paipo side and will shear my development on this forum hope you don't mind.
Am very pleased to find this site look forward to learning about paipo design.

Hello Hydro-Skiper,

I believe there is a paipo rider on PI and BJ is on the west coast. Jamie Farfor surfed around the Mornington Peninsula and made paipo in the 60s based on the Paipo Nui boards.

I'm hoping to do a day trip to PI or the peninsula in May, as a side trip to Lorne.

I have some questions about my paipo board

it is getting fury on the botom should i seal it with something or fibre glass it ?

I was looking at other ply paipo's on this site and they are almost triangular in shape compared to my board which is still the same form as when I brought it ie rectangle shape, not knowing enough about paipo thought it would be dumb to molest it. Will it improve the speed or turning capabilities if i modify it the same as those triangular boards.

with your ply wood I would sand it smooth then put about 3 to 4 coats of spar varnish will be ok for about a year or so

keep makeing them ply boards. I only have about 20 or so / im liking that statement

is their any advantages to riding a foam glass polly board

From my limited experienced

the ply boards should have to be the fastest

having so much fun with those little smilies

Welcome. Its been long proven that you can ride just about any shape of 3/8" - 3/4" plywood. However, my experience has been the "triangular" shaped boards are the most versatile performance/ maneuverability wise. With this style board, I found it made a big difference how the rear tail corners are shaped. Rounded was dramatically better than sharp or angular.

I've never been able to get into the foam/glass/skegged boards myself. The hard board plus skegs seems more of liability in the kinds of waves I've surfed most of my life (good chance of a slamming closeout barrel). It's obvious that some people get a lot of stoke out of those boards though.

I liked the welsh photos and your historic finds. I suspect there are a few sheds in Victoria with these boards stashed away.

When we go to Vic, if it's not work related, my wife likes two days in the city which is about all I tolerate and about a week down the coast. On one of the city days I thought I'd do an escape to the east.

I just checked, the guy who posted on Swaylocks from PI, used the name TomMW. Surfed all sorts of craft including trays.
