billy, is it really as fun, belly sliding those in slop, as your face leads on? or is fun because you are have so much fun with your beautiful family?

Thanks for the views and replies guys! I gotta say, this type of surfing is rapidly becoming my favourite. Its the perfect cure for the seriousness and aggravation of searching for, and having to fight for, perfect clean waves. Don't get me wrong, I love to bust out my hull or paipo's and get barreled, after all, nice clean faces are what we all crave! But especially over the holidays, the best breaks are always packed.

I find that sliding on your belly in the whitewash is kind of like putting on a clown-suit at a kids party. You feel like an idiot at first, but you soon get over yourself and realise that no-one is having more fun than you! I can't recommend it more highly. The key ingredient to enjoying sliding in the soup is having a kid with you. They have no ego issues, and see the pure joy in it!

Also, these boards open up a new type of performance surfing when these little shorebreaks get clean and hollow. I've had some of the best barrels of my life in sub 2ft surf which I frequently get to myself, simply because its breaking in 8 inches of water. Having fun in the slop is a blast. Two foot slop with friends is better than six foot barrels with bunch of bozos.

Your bellyboard video reminds me of the retrospective video of the English lady who has bellyboarded for 50+ years: same takeoff, same style of riding and same big smile. Bob, what's her name?

In a couple years you'll be taking a beating with a videocam in the impact zone while your son is blasting by!
