Another based on that old time Waikiki surfer's board.
There's what looks like blue stain fungus marks on a couple of these boards so the squid has squirted his ink.
Paki = Squirt and these boards make it feel like you're squirting across the water
A couple more coats of oil and it's good to go.

What are the dimensions of that board? That shape/style of board is a lot of fun. I've made a couple of plywood versions.

Aloha Trevor,
It's 59¼" X 18½" at the wide point;Tail is 16".
Thickest part is less than ¾"
In one of the hallways at the SHF there's a very large print of this photo that allows a person to really study the shape.

There's a lot going on with the board not readily evident in a photo this small. Those old school Kanaka knew much more about hydrodynamics than they get credit for.
I used one of the shaping programs to come up with on outline I was happy with and then plotted it out in a size I felt would be appropriate. The modern way to get an ancient shape
And yeah this shape is excellent fun.

Thanks. I suspected your board was in the 5 ft range. The board I have now in that style is 5/8" ply; 44" long with a wide point of 17" , and tail at 14.5". The one I made prior was 3/4" ply, with similar overall dimensions. I was inspired by that old Waikiki photo too, along with another pic of a shorter board in that style that was found stored under someone's house. I'll try a longer board the next time I make another version. Seems like I need more width under my hips for open faces and flat sections. My board works really well in small, fast hollow waves though.

I think with the next one I'll go down to the 48"-52" range, slightly thicker and using the same template but just the forward section....
