They were bellyboards, not paipos

As shown in this photograph shot at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, California, you will see that the ancients clearly rode bellyboards made of wood, not paipo boards. Note the belly hole in the back of the board!

Reminds me of the story I heard about someone who paid a lot of money for an alleged ancient Papuan surfboard that someone else claimed was a table top.
