Terry "Moses" N. (Austin baseline paipo and Romanosky paipo, handle=fire08), PhillyViking (surf mat & paipos), AtlantaSurfer (wood paipos, short and Alaia length) and I will be hitting the shores of NW Costa Rica in a few days. It will be interesting to see how our varied prone platforms work in the wide range of surf conditions we expect to encounter. We are sure to have fun!
PhillyViking only travels with his surf mat, but Moses has two boards and so does AtlantaSurfer, so no doubt PhillyViking will give them a spin here and there.

I have a place on Hatteras Island (OBX) NC if anyone finds there travels taking them there. Just by chance in the town of Waves for folks that may know the island. I have my Austin "BigBoy" paipo and and handful of sponges.

I am down in Avon every year the first full week after Labor Day Weekend. Come on down, or we will come up, depending upon the swell and wind. There are usually a few paipo riders in the cottage plus a Wave Skater.

The waves will be huge on the open ocean reef area but the inside (a couple hundred yards from shore) still has tons of waves that form and reform, still in head plus conditions. This last April when a powerful due South of 6-12 foot hit there was tons of powerful "inside" waves breaking in the 5-8' range.

We have had a good 4 days and in day 5 now. Expect to paddle out this afternoon with the tide filling in. Looks like a small pulse long period SSW swell is here which should be fun times... praying the wind holds up, dies or turns a bit offshore. Philly and Atlanta have been trying out Terry's 50-inch Austin and enjoying it -- they have been primarily alaia paipo and mat surfers. Interesting comments and observations. Also great guys to travel with and make story talk.

I will be surfing on the Big Island from mid-January through mid-March, perhaps with side trips to Oahu and Maui. Keep an eye on the forecast and drop in at the last minute.

I have ppd. my travel plans for Oahu & Big Island this Oct/Nov 2013 for maybe a year later. Sounds like you will be in the Islands the right time, Ted.

Uncle G asked for some photos. France & Spain. For a while it looked like I was doomed to surf headhigh (while lying down) waves, but things improved.
