Wow... so much wisdom in that letter from John Kelly. Everything you need to know about Hawaiian style paipos is right there. I'll always regret not taking up the invitation to go over to his house to learn about surfing history back when I was in college.

John Kelly is one of the all-time greats in my short list. When I first started doing this paipo research stuff about 4 years ago his books was one of the first ones I read, purely by accident, but quickly became one of my favorites. Seeing this letter was a real highlight... good to see there are still pack rats in the world!!
