I saw this handled board on ebay today (link at bottom.)

I asked the seller if he knew who shaped the board, and he replied:

Myself and 2 room mates, no one famous but we should have been. With a little bit of advice from Hoby Alter (begrudingly)

So Rod...Bob..is this someone you've interviewed before?

Poobah,

I doubt that I have had contact. If you pm an e-mail address I'm happy to make contact. What is his name?

Bob

It's tricky, because Ebay doesn't want you to exchange emails through their messaging system. They have software to prevent that. I usually ask people to Google paipo interviews (rather than paipo forum.) On the interview page there's a link for people to submit their story. That might be what Rod does. I'm not sure. Anyway...I sent the guy a second message:

There are people that collect History, and there's a specific place for paipo History. Please do an internet search for paipo interviews, and you'll find them. This is NOT an attempt to buy the board outside of Ebay. Cheers.

That link from the main Interviews page to the questionaire doesn't stand out very well Maybe it needs a graphic or picture. Something that would get the attention of older guys, like Clara Bow at the beach.

Poobah,

Thanks. I found out I couldn't send my e-mail address so I sent my webpage URL and directed the seller to the bottom of the page where my e-mail address is found.

If you hear anything let me know and I'll follow it up.

There are a few classic ply bellyboard photos with women, that might also foot the bill.

Okay you sexist pigs!!!

If a web page link for the Paipo Interviews page can be sent in an eBay message a link to the Your Paipo History page can be sent: http://mypaipoboards.org/riders/YourPaipoHistory.shtml

Sometimes the alternative form of an email address works: paipodude at mypaipoboards dot org

unless ebay has the bots looking now, you can get round the email by send a picture of your email hand written :o

shame he wants to sell it if he helped shape it back in the day, guess it has no life significance if its up for sale :?

Krusher, sometimes it is simply something that evolves in our elder years :( We downsize, need to purge, move on. It sounds like he has not surfed in a long, long time so the board is one of the items taking up space and has to go. At least the board is for sale.. hope it sells to someone and does not end up in the dump!

Yo…that is Gordon Theisz's label…looks like an 80's experiment.
After living in Cambria for many years, he meandered back to Sth Calif. in about 1985,(Laguna-Cardiff region) and made a few paipo's…Jeff Quam had one or two during this time.I made an effort about 5 years ago to contact him, but with no success.
Last i heard was he was living out of an RV , not surfing, and not wanting to talk about paipo's.
Really a pity as he is both a really nice human, and a pivotal person in paipo design and history…a direct connection to the late , great,Wally Froiseth and his designs that took such a hold in Laguna Beach via the Calhouns, Spyder Wills, Art Brewer, and many others.

Ah, I see from an email from Bob that the seller says it's a 60's board…but for sure thats' Gordons label he put together after an abortive attempt with Hobie to develop a line of Hobie paipo's….and the beat goes on!

Hello Robert,

Paipo boards have been influenced by a number of individuals such as Greenough and Simmons, however, the two distinctly bellyboard designs are John Waidelich's guitar pick Paipo Nui and Wally Froiseth's twin finned, tombstone shaped board with a handle. Any progress with the plan to document the lineage from Froiseth?

The seller is a former roommate of Gordon Theiz. He says he hasn't spoken to Gordon in decades. The board has been relisted at $450.

Poobah,

I've not heard anything. Do you have a name or any contact details?
