MY PAIPO BOARDS
Five Decades of Paipos

Sunny and Surfin' Harlequin (Diamond) RPM XII (or "Sunny" for short)
Background: The Checkered Diamond Bonzer was built during the Winter of 2014, and I accepted delivery on May 14, 2014. This board is influenced by my S&S Checkered RPM series design boards built for me by Austin Saunders; the Laguna-style paipos, with their original influence being the Wally Froiseth paipos of the 1950s and 1960s, and then by Gordon Theisz; and finally, the Campbell Brothers (after all it is a Bonzer!). Robert Moynier is the link between the Laguna and Bonzer influences. The two significant departures from the S&S Checkered RPM series is the wider, squarer tail and the Bonzer bottom and fin system. Additionally, the side fins are placed more forward and there are 4 sidebite fin boxes and one center fin slot (instead of a 2+1 configuration).

A shallow concave begins at the elbow in the nose rocker and transitions to deepening twin shallow concaves beginning at the leading edge of the forward runners to a deeper 7/16" concaves at the tail tip (pod) of the board.

Notes: This is the configuration that is working well for me in everyday surf. I could see chasing some of the Sunset Beach monsters out at the Outer Wash using the 4-1/2 center fin with the quad set of Bonzer runners but the current setup is a good way to start.
