Steve Artis When you say a seemless transition, do you notice any differences in how you ride the board, prone versus kneeling. I would imagine a quite different centre of gravity and weighting. I'd be interested in your thoughts on this?

I was really meaning how all th Hanalia fins adapted to proning after using them in my kneeboards .The dynamics of proning versus kneeboard surfing as you imagined are different , I don't have definitive a explanation but feel that the chest and shoulders serve as a front foot or knees, and the thighs as rear foot or ankles , surfing prone I have felt a more lateral experience due to lower centre of gravity and weighting and much more versatile in waves I never really considered being able to surf on my knees , I hope that makes sense , its the pros and cons of each that keep the stoke fun

its all in your weight transfer , laying down prone will spread your weight evenly , and you will accelerate over kneeling in the one position will not be the same , the spoon was interesting yesterday as its a displacement hull so laying down prone you are surfing lower than the water level where is with say a belly / soft / board you are riding atop the water. I started off kneeling and I felt the moment I lost my fin as I came off the bottom and felt it slip off the top , flipped it over and no fin to be seen so rode it prone with the occasional kneel ! I like riding prone without fins as I enjoy the drift in the tail & with the spoon I was riding more off the tail as you can see in the video , my rule of thumb when riding crossover boards are , if you want more drive out of your board , large broad base keel type fins are the go and thats what I have in the little 4'8" softech fish , when you want to have some slip and drift, use those little D fins.

My new 5’ 1” Earthrise PrNr Quad , heading for an Indo hollowday for baptism

Thanks for the likes and comments , I am stoked to still be able to draw on a 50 year plus involvement in surfing , shaping and designing kneeboards and now near on a decade of PrNr quad surfing ,shaping and design ,
I design and shape to suit my own personal criteria, of speed and performance , if others can relate and want to experience the immersive feel ,exaggerated sense of speed and a bit of time dilation here and there

The thing that attracts me to the Hanalei find is they work and transferred seamlessly from my kneeboard to prone board over the past 6-8 boards

Bottom lamination , done , deck spray today , laminate deck tomorrow , , I call it a drop in reduction spray ,. Proto PrNr 3 ie 5’1 x23 “ Earthrise quad slightl refinement
FB_Artis20Mayx.jpg

this is 5’ 1” x 23 , been thinking of going a bit shorter only if I get a lot fitter
The 5’1” adapts well to the less than perfect waves at the local
I am enjoying the journey , exploring the very different aspects of design and performance in going prone

Brief explanation , rail is chined to first wing then square rail with foil to tail , Bottom slight rolled vee in nose thru entry into single concave transition into vee and double into channels spiral vee to tail , this bottom shape has evolved from my kneeboard designs is performance orientated , based on a relativity concept ie too much to mention This is the 3rd proto proner (PrNr) eps blank epoxy skin , handmade in the shed
