Ján Janči Póč
Awesome. How did you manage to get hold of the wood from Eden?

Andy Bick

Ján Janči Póč quite a few years ago. I was given a balsa log by Tris Cokes (Tris Surfboards) as it was too short to use for stand up. Balsa grows really quickly and the tree had to be trimmed to stop it going through the roof! The board being surfed in the group image (by Mike Numan) is one of my original hollow Eden balsa Paipos

Beautiful work! What are the dims?

Andy Bick
41” x 17” x not very thick!

Kim Green
like the shape and the wood. Is there a finish on the wood?

Andy Bick
yes it’s locally grown balsa. I’ve had to glass it. Really not my favourite pastime!!

I’ve been making my own blanks for nearly 20 years. I like the control that comes with that.
The planks (20mm) tend to come with a natural rocker, so I accentuate that by planing the nose and tail to around 12mm and the thickness of the rails is also thinned.
I’ll post some more photos as I build this one.

Nick Worsfold
cool.. are you using biscuits to hold it together ?

Andy Bick
Nick Worsfold no as they could show when planing the rocker or rails. However I do create a thin channel all along the edges to increase adhesion area.
