Off to ireland on a 5 day trip. I shall do my best to return with some pics!!

Well scored some good surf in ireland, 14 surfs in 5 days!! None of the spots i have been hunting for years turned on ,but the average in ireland is very good. I surf mainly around easky in county sligo with a trip up to bundoran for day.

Good to see you don't take yourself too seriously.

The rights look like they may have a nearby companion left. Are any of the small lefts a small version of Mundaka?

What was the water temp?

A great place for a trip.

This area is super wave rich, when there are waves most surfers in the area surf easky left and easky right which are both good waes , but there are many great waes within 15mins drive. Most are slabby rock shelfs with some boulder breaks. There is one beach which is a swell magnet which has a nice right sand bar (the barrel shot) we surfed there alone.

There's no pics from this trip (they had no wave, need big swell), but there is a local river mouth that like mundaka and another 2 hours north.

sea temp this time of year was warm due to the gulf stream 60f so a 3/2 was fine, it will be dropping fast now down to 44 by christmas. Also september give you like from 6am till 9pm

Glad you guys noticed my "trick maneuver" lol.

I developed a trick back in my early days of bodyboarding were when i was trying to hurl myself into a 360 to hard I ended up rolling onto my side, I then realized I could do a spin in this odd position. A friend named it "cat on the mat"

The one in the picture is the much rarer and harder "slut on the bed"

Its my goal to "cat on the mat" as many famous waves as I get to surf.

It looked like one of those waves was just around the corner from ER - little M.

Is the tubing beach break you mentioned north or south of the famous castle remains?


While I never surfed Bundoran, there seemed to be lots and lots of set-ups nearby.

I'm thinking of a summer 2015 trip to the UK. My wife suggested going to wales - I'm voting for Ireland.

No, non of the pics are of mini mundaka (its a reef so a stupid name really), it takes a super North swell to break which is rare, with a W/NW swell ER can be 8ft and mini is still only 1ft!

I would head straight for ireland of your doing a trip across here, it looks just like wales and has far better surf.

First pic is the same place as pic3 in the first set few years back when it was big enough to surf'

The beach is to the east of easky about 10miles, the the west side of aughris head. it looks bad from the end you can drive to but the sandbar at the west end of the beach is very good

We had lunch one cold day at the Aughris pub, no waves but warm soup. Little M had some size but it was blowing a gale (even in the inland lochs had whitecaps).

Where's the most reliable place in Wales for waves in summer - pm or e-mail if you like. Winter no doubt is a better time of year, but the trip is planned around a conference.
