Ride report:
Ended up doing my logo by getting a reverse decal as a mask and using black spray paint, almost went very wrong as the paint was leaching under the mask so I took the mask off with the paint still half dry, then hit it with some oi and wiped it around, luckily paint had soaked into the wood and the rest wiped off and diluted, giving a kinda aged look which i was happy with.
Did not get chance to ride the board till my indo trip to G-land, took it out on a smaller 3ft day to start with, very slow to paddle around on but very easy to duck dive deep so no drag back.
Soon found the (as i have been told here) board pushed out in front of you wave catching method works well with this board (never found it works with a paipo with volume)
The board with lack of rocker is very fast down the line, found with the lack of rail volume you cant surf off the rail boyancy-wise as I would with a foam paipo/bodyboard, and you have you keep your body out of the wave face or instant dag/stall. I found I needed to keep my hands/arms more inboard and ride off the bottom of the board rather than the rail.
After a few different sessions I got better at riding it, with my normal cutback and spins being possible, managed to also get a good 4ft clean barrel, just gotta keep that shoulder out of the wave face!
The concave to V from my foam paipo worked very well, and i could feel the thin rail working as a fin in the wave face, and found i could lift my legs on some wave and hold rail very easily.
I can see how people like the longer/straighter paipo to lift their legs and be faster due to less drag, but i feel for my surfing that would hinder manoeuvrability and be a more straight down the line design.
Will next be trying it out in some weak small welsh waves to see how that compares.
