sheesh!!!
I finished my blue stained board. I was very patient. I took the time to let stain and coats of varnish fully dry. I did not rush things at all. I surfed the board for the 1st time today. had fun. I noticed the varnish on the deck is peeling off like a skin. WTF? I have 5 coats on the bottom and 3 on the deck. I wax the deck so I figured it would have an added seal with that anyway. The bottom seems fine.

Re: sheesh!!!
Many stains are incompatible with typical varnishes.
There are several ways to fix the problem, but Rod gets bored and snippy when we start talkin' about wood finishes.
Shoot me a PM if you'd like.

Nothing secret about it.
Just your basic "Tutti Frutti" woodworking finish skills learned over many years of real world experience..

A barrier coat of shellac or better yet epoxy will seal the stain, it then can and should be varnished.
Many types of wood stains will not accept a standard marine varnish finish.
As far as you, ROD, making any board, I say, get to it ............ and don't forget to post plenty of pictures

There is something about foam, fiberglass and resin.... yeah, I did that once of twice decades ago and that was enough! Now I outsource my production -- it works rather wellUncle Grumpy wrote:rodndtube wrote: Ha Ha! Share the secrets. Maybe someday I will want to make and ride a long board

No long board?
If I had enough money I'd love to build a home and a car and a bike and many more paipos, but since I'd rather surf and fish then work, I'll have to content myself with paipos...............

Re: sheesh!!!
I will have to be old and crippled before riding a long board. Until then it shall be healthy adventures on my paipo board (burp, bellyboard!).
